About This Course
This 24-hour online course is approved by the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR) and meets the requirements for Parent Taught Driver Education (PTDE).
PTDE allows a parent, guardian, or other qualified instructor to teach both the classroom and the behind-the-wheel (BTW) portions of driver education.
This course provides the classroom portion (24 hours). The behind-the-wheel portion (44 hours total) must be completed by the parent instructor and recorded on official TDLR log sheets.
Step 1: Order the PTDE Program Guide
Before starting this course, the parent instructor must order the official Parent Taught Driver Education (PTDE) Program Guide from TDLR.
- Cost: $20 (non-refundable)
- Order here: TDLR PTDE Program Guide Request
👉 You cannot legally begin PTDE without this guide.
Step 2: Behind-the-Wheel Requirements
In addition to the 24-hour classroom, the parent instructor must also complete:
- 7 hours driving instruction
